Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition
Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition is an enhanced version of Pokémon Red and Blue that closely follows the early seasons of the Pokémon animated series. Released for the Game Boy Color in 1998/1999, it lets you begin your journey in Kanto with Pikachu as your partner, encounter familiar characters like Team Rocket’s Jessie and James, and explore a vibrant 8-bit world filled with classic Pokémon battles and trading.
Game Overview
Start in Pallet Town and travel across the Kanto region, catching, training, and battling Pokémon to become the Pokémon League Champion. Pikachu follows behind you on-screen and reacts to how you treat it, while battles, Gym challenges, and rival encounters have been adjusted to reflect memorable moments from the anime. Strategic turn-based combat, type matchups, and team building remain at the core of the experience.
With support for trading and battling via link cable, Pokémon Yellow encourages connecting with friends to complete your Pokédex and test your skills. Exclusive encounter placements and updated sprites give this edition its own identity while preserving the charm of the original Kanto adventure.
