Yesterday I finally had the time to begin, or continue my Ultra Sun playthrough. I know it’s a bit odd to begin chronicling my journey at the 3rd Island of the game, but not all stories start the same. Plus, I’m sure I’ll play through this game or Ultra Moon again someday and log it from the beginning.

I’ve already posted about my current team, but to remind you again we have: Percy the Torracat, Andre the Passimian, Dolly the Steenee, Debbie the Bagon, Judge the Gumshoos, and Tidbit the Wishiwashi.

All of their levels are somewhat close, Dolly feels the weakest but it is close to evolving into Tsareena. I didn’t progress much and to be honest it was one of the worst performances I’ve ever done in a Pokemon game. At the start of Ula’Ula Island you battle with your Rival Hau. Now, I forgot that I wasn’t playing Sun or Moon where Hau is a joke, because Hau destroyed my spirit, completely stomped me. Now Dartrix wasn’t too much of a problem, I started with Andre and U-Turned out of there to Judge. Judge got some Rock Tombs off but still went down to Dartrix. I had Percy finish Dartrix off, and then Alolan Raichu. Who outsped nearly all of my Pokemon and one shot almost all of them. Tidbit somehow survived and finished it off with a Faint Attack. Then Tauros (Hau still had 3 Pokemon). Tidbit managed to get Tauros down to red health, but took enough damage to go back to Solo form. At this point I knew I was cooked. I also knew Tauros outsped so I clicked brine again and looked away assuming I had already lost and ready to rematch Hau. When I looked back at the screen. Tidbit was still there and now we were facing a Vaporeon. Solo form Wishiwashi somehow took down Hau’s Tauros, but we did lose to the Vaporeon. All good though, I really was not focused in the match but I was ready to take revenge on the rematch….Except that I guess in Ultra Sun if Hau beats you, you don’t white out, he just gives you a Lycanium-Z to flex on how he beat your ass. So lost some EXP and dignity, I healed my team and picked up Facade and U-Turn at the Pokemon Center (actually this was before the match).

With that poor display (my fault, not my team) I only could afford just one random trainer fight in Malie Garden. Team did much better, Dolly actually took down the last Pokemon and leveled up, learning Stomp. Which meant, we have a Tsareena now! With Trop Kick too. I love signature moves. And that’s where we ended our playtime. Now that Dolly is a Tsareena, let’s talk about a Dolly Parton song that I have already known and loved plus fits this game pretty well. “Islands in the Stream”. This duet with Kenny Rogers goes hard and no matter your music preference I think you’ll enjoy your time with this one. It’s just so fun and free, the vocals are sweet and the chorus is so contagiously catchy. Have a listen!
