We wanted to find a cozy movie to watch a couple nights ago, and I’m not sure what made me remember this movie, but it certainly was the kind of film to fit that vibe. I had seen this movie many years ago, not in the theater, but at home by myself. I could barely remember anything that happened, but I do remember feeling touched and warm from it. I will say though, Winne the Pooh seems to always hit us right in the childhood and so reveals our most vulnerable selves.
This movie does start off fairly slow, I could see some people getting bored with it and giving up, but if they stay engaged, it really just keeps getting better. Once Pooh bear reenters the story, everything changes and the CGI, and dull grey tone over the movie are forgotten and you are just transported back to being a child. Pooh is such a innocent and somehow wise character that absolutely anything said by him hits you emotionally, whether it’s joy or sadness. I cried several times in the movie, both at very still and happy moments, I’m not sure why that is. It feels almost like confronting your childhood self and accepting that version of you completely, that you love them, miss them, and want to be them again.
This movie also gets so funny towards the end. I enjoyed my time with it immensely. I also liked the message of “doing nothing can lead to the very best of something”. In times like today, where your attention and focus are constantly being harassed and just always doing something. Being bored or doing nothing at all is actually a very brave and freeing act.
